Thriller Task - Filming

Today we filmed all of the footage that we will need for our opening sequence. Me , Shaneece , Henna and Annie (character A) all made our way to our first location , the cliff top which I found. Once there we looked at our storyboard which we had brought along with us. We started by filming the first shot which was an establishing shot we thought that this would be good as it would set the scene for the rest of the opening scene , it will also give everyone an idea of high up character A was on the cliff and what she can see. I filmed this shot and to make it more effect I zoomed in the furthest the camera could go then slowly zoomed out to create tension and atmosphere and set the pace of the scene. It also helped give the audience a detailed image of the surroundings. Me , Henna and Shaneece all took turns in filming different shots so it was fair and so all of us took part and joined in. One of the most difficult shots we did was slowly zooming onto the mobile phone which was hidden into the grass , the was hard because it was hard to get the camera in the right place and get a steady zoom onto the phone as we either kept on loosing the phone or we zoomed it too fast. We also had to make sure that you could see ‘unknown caller’ on the phone because it is an important part of our sequence. During filming we noticed that our tripod was quite tiff which made it harder for us to film some shots as it kept on making them jumpy we sorted out this problem by going back to college and getting another tripod. Also at college we picked up Jonathan (character B) who we needed as we had to film his part. Before we could film Jonathans part me and Shaneece went to the bottom of the cliff and asked Annie to stand at the top so we could film a shot of her standing there to show the dice how high the cliff was. This is quite difficult as me and Shaneece had forgotten to take the tripod with us so we had to do film it just with us holding the camera. In the end we decided that this gave the shot a good shaky effect and created an creepy and unsure atmosphere. We then joined Annie , Henna And Jonathan back at the cliff where Shaneece and Henna filmed the last 2 shots that we needed of Annie. We then moved to our second location which is the graveyard which I also found. It was also good as it was only 5 minutes away from the cliff top so we saved some time. We filmed a static shot of Jonathan walking down the graveyard as this helped introduce the character and the new location , we had to film this a couple of times as Jonathan kept on walking to fast or too happy. We then filmed the last couple of shots that was Jonathan standing under an arch while he dials the phone and says ‘do not jump’ down the phone. He was originally meant to say ‘don’t jump’ but I thought ‘do not jump’ sounded more stern and authorative.

One problem we kept on encountering as we were filming is the lighting ,because it was quite bright when we filmed things on the camera it turned out really bright and sometimes we couldn’t even see the character. We didn’t want this so we tried setting the white balance but that didn’t work either , we have decided to try and edit the lightening when we go into the editing stage on Thursday.
