Introduction Lesson - Tuesday 19th January

Today we got told all about our preliminary task which was to create a short clip with involved a person walking into a room , sitting down and having a conversation of around 4 lines with the person sitting opposite. We were told that we had to plan , storyboard , film and edit our scene withing the groups which we were put into.

Before we could start planning we needed to know the basics about the camera and how to use it.

  • The tape always goes in upside down and that the silver strip is facing outwards
  • Make sure that the recording format is set to slow play
  • Always clean the lens with a tissue and not your finger as this will lead to the lens having finger prints on.
  • To make sure the sound is at its best make sure that you set the audio to 16 BIT instead of 12
  • Always use a tripod to ensure steady camera movements
  • Remember the pre and post rule , this where you start recording 5 seconds before movement or dialogue and record for a further 5 seconds after the action has stopped. This is to make sure that all footage is being recorded and none if cut off
  • Do not point the camera directly into the sun as it will damage the lens
  • Make sure you set the white balance every time you shoot something
  • Always stick to the 180° rule
  • Rule of thirds
